Stellar Mountain Guiding

Alpine, ski, and rock guiding anywhere in the world

PAUL KOUBEK

I’m an IFMGA-licensed American Mountain Guide offering ski, alpine, and climbing adventures on all continents.

Background

I am an IFMGA licensed American Mountain Guide. I am also an Instructor Team Member and Examiner for the American Mountain Guides Association. I have spent my entire career leading expeditions across all seven continents. I grew up in Maine where I attended Gould Academy and competed in biathlon. While earning a degree in Literature from Reed College, I got my start leading wilderness therapy courses in the Utah desert and eventually that led to a decade teaching outdoor education for Outward Bound and the National Outdoor Leadership School. I was the guide manager, lead guide trainer, and a senior guide for Alpine Ascents International. I have also worked for the US Antarctic Program as a lead mountaineer. I became a pinned IFMGA guide in 2017 as a logical next step in my three-decades-long mountain guiding career.

Where I guide

I currently guide ski and climbing objectives in Yosemite, the Sierra Nevada, the Alps, the Cascade Range, Joshua Tree, Red Rock, Japan, and more. Current offerings include big wall guiding in Yosemite, single-day or multi-day climbing and alpine objectives in the western US and Europe, and multi-day ski touring in the Sierra Nevada, the Alps, and Japan. Make your dream trip a reality! Reach out for specific offerings and private guided skiing and climbing.
